Some of you are lucky to have a boss who appreciates your work. He values your efforts, supports your self-development and gives regular feedbacks for your advancement at work. You are paid properly and treated fairly amongst your other colleagues.

However, some of you might not that lucky and trapped under a bad management that rarely appreciate the employees. As you are not appreciated, you feel difficult to develop yourself, even get the promotion or salary raise in the future.

Not all employees are willing to change the situation. As your colleagues feel fine about it, you might also see it as a common situation. Before you lose your self-esteem or confidence, and ruin your whole-life, take a look at these 6 signs you are not appreciated at work:

1. Your Ideas, But Not Your Credits

Ideas are precious and noone can steal it from you, including your boss. Claiming your ideas to be his/hers is a clear indication that you are not appreciated at work. Most of new hires are doubt to communicate this issue. They even prefer to keep silent and seek for the comfort zone instead of clarifying.

As a professional employee, you should hold an open and honest communication to your boss. Speak politely and express how you really disappointed with his/her claim and seek for the best solution that is fair for you.

2. Your Boss Doesn’t Notice You

Every employee deserves to be appreciated for their hard works and any other sacrifices (including time, efforts, and money). When you already give your best and your boss doesn’t notice it, this is a clear sign that you are not appreciated at work.

Instead of being passive, you can take advantage on a regular meeting or performance appraisal to show off your great efforts and how much extra time you have invested to the company. Such clear communication will lead the employers to notice, and this is great for your future career.

3. You Are Not Being Paid Enough

Money is a great reason of why you are working. When employers demand you to execute myriad of tasks and duties, even working for extra hours at the weekend, you deserve a proper payment according to your regional payment standard. Being underpaid is a tangible sign that you are not appreciated at work.

You can hold an effective communication to your manager about the issue. A salary raise or workloads decreasement are two alternative things your manager can opt to solve the issue.

4. You Are Not Inspired By Your Job

Lack of self-development opportunity and any other learning access make you to be a robot at work, instead of an employee. Your boss always demand you to be great performers at work, but he/she doesn’t support you to broaden the skill sets and capabilities.

You can take some initiation to have an on-site training or mentoring that can help you execute the regular duties and meet the company’s expectation.

5. You Missed the Promotion

A promotion is an important stage for your career at the company. New responsibilities or job positions are usually followed by a salary raise and other benefits you can take.

When you have done great efforts and miss the promotion, you should hold a calm, one-to-one communication with your manager.

If you are not promoted because of some managerial reasons, you might accept it. However, when the reason seems to be irrational, you can consult with your HR manager and seek for the best solution.

In conclusion

It is important to find out why your boss doesn’t appreciate your work. The bad leadership trait, congenital personality and senior leaders’ pressures are some factors that might lead him/her to do so. Instead of reacting emotionally, you should be tactical and hold an effective communication to solve the issue.
