Many people have a conviction that they have enough time to relax and enjoy their twenties. With so much freedom and minimal responsibilities, twenty-somethings is that time your life where you don’t have to worry about a career, children, or mortgages. Often dubbed as the prime-time of your life, early 20s is often filled with the pursuits of partying, having fun, and making building as much as social experiences. But is all fun and games the only thing to define your twenties?

Being a student who is typically financially-supported by parents, people in early 20s do not have much to worry as long as they are going to school regularly, passing classes, and occasionally taking part-time jobs to earn additional pocket money. After finishing their study, the later 20s usually came with a bit more responsibility as they have to undergo a period of transition from school to work and face the reality. Starting to pave a career path, this is the time where we usually become more serious about arranging plans for the future and having a more stable life.

Twenties should not be wasted on jumping from one party to another. Still young and full of energy, being in your 20s means that you still have a lot of opportunities to discover new things and gain as much experience as possible. As an old proverb says, ‘Experience is the best teacher’, being at such young age gives us the privilege to try and fail in order to achieve personal growth. Having greater tolerance for failure, it can push us to work harder and eventually meet the goals.

As your twenties don’t come twice, here are five tips on how to make the most of the years so it won’t pass in the blink an eye for nothing:

Grow yourself in a new place

While you are young, don’t settle in one place. Go to other places to seek new and different experiences. Instead of wasting your time working in a job you hate, you should move on and grab the chance to discover what you are really passionate about. If you are committed to invest your time in building a career early, it can boost confidence in your ability to do your job well.

Don’t just look for a job

While being financially stable is important as you need to support yourself, it is not a good idea to put material things first in your twenties. More than just receiving paycheck to pay the bills at the end of the month, you should develop a sense of purpose in your job. Try to contribute the world to be a better place by doing what you love and have good impacts to others.

Be patient

Millennials, who are now in their 20s, tend to crave instant gratification, meaning that they are unable to wait for anything and needing to see results instantly. The truth is, good things take time. You should be patient because efforts matter more than results.

Take smart risks

Keep this in mind: it is okay to make mistakes, as long as you can learn from them. Don’t be afraid of jumping to new opportunity. By taking difficult choices and taking smart risks to start doing something, you might learn amazing things and test yourself to deal with many occurrences. Good chances never come twice, so you have to seize it.

Be open to criticism

Constructive feedbacks can guide you not only to be a better individual, but also prevent you from committing the same errors. Be open to criticism can also help you grow wider perspective as you will learn to see from various points of view.
